It’s hard to know whether to boast about the Moroccan history, values, the colors, the architecture, or the food. Some say the surf would be more important than any of those things. And young girls might say its main attraction is the surfing instructors at Essaouira.
Jimi Hendrix fell in love with one of the coastal villages in 1969. Morocco has been a destination for Winston Churchill, Kate Winslet, Sylvester Stallone, Leonardo DiCaprio, Madonna, Johnny Depp, and a list of other luminaries.
The blue walls of Chefchaouen to the windblown mounds of the Sahara stir your senses. The Atlas mountains, bustling medinas, mud ruins at Benhaddou, and wafting aroma of tagine give you cause for pause. And then there’s the music, the taste of that tagine, the random wandering camel, and the performing monkeys and cobras in the Jemaa El Fna Square in Marrakech. Any one of those experiences will draw your curiosity.
My friends in Tangier have treated me like family. Their generosity is uncommon. Their willingness to sing and dance and play together has made my visits heartwarming, to say the least.
