12-Day Spain Itinerary

Day 1, January 28 — Barcelona

• Arrive in Barcelona and settle into your hotel

• Welcome traditional Spanish dinner

• Overnight: Barcelona

​

Day 2, January 29 –Gaudi, Gothic Quarter and Spanish cooking

• Morning visit to Gaudi’s Batllo and walk through Barcelona’s historic Gothic Quarter

• Enjoy an afternoon cooking class followed by an evening stroll along Las Ramblas and the Born district with tapas and Spanish wine.

• Overnight: Barcelona

Day 3, January 30 — Barcelona Picasso, Gaudi, & Catalan Culture → Girona

• Visit to the Picasso Museum Barcelona, with its especially strong collection of Picasso's formative works

•  Afternoon stop at Sagrada Família, and walk through Gracia Neighborhood to explore Park Güell, another one of Gaudi’s creations

• Depart Barcelona for the Catalan countryside heading north.

• Dinner featuring Catalan specialties and local wine.

• Overnight: Girona

Day 4, January 31 — Barcelona → Girona → Castellfollit de la Roca

• Spend the morning exploring Girona's medieval old town, cathedral, Jewish Quarter and ancient walls.

• Drive to Castellfollit de la Roca, one of Spain's most dramatic villages, perched spectacularly on a basalt cliff.

• Walk through the tiny medieval village and enjoy views over the surrounding volcanic landscape.

• Overnight: Girona

Day 5, February 1  — Girona → Tarragona 

• Travel south along the Costa Dorado to a UNESCO World Heritage site packed with remarkably well-preserved Roman ruins, including a stunning Roman Amphitheater overlooking the sea, a Roman circus, and ancient walls.

• Overnight: Tarragona

Day 6, February 2 — Tarrangona → La Vilavella 

• Visit the historic city of Tortosa and Suda Castle (an old Moorish fortress) and medieval walls that reflect centuries of strategic military history along the Ebro River.

• Enjoy visit to Iberian pre-Roman archaeological settlements in the Montsià and Terres de l'Ebre hills of Puig de la Crui and the Castellet de Banyoles.

• Enjoy time along the Mediteranean, with lunch overlooking the water.

• Overnight: La Vilavella

Day 7, February 3 — La Vilavella → Alicante 

• Visit the Castille de Santa Barbara and visit the Basilica of Santa María and the San Nicolás Co-cathedral in old town

• Enjoy a stroll on Alicante’s famous promenade.

• Overnight: Alicante

Day 8, February 4 — Alicante →

• Continue traveling south toward Andalusia stopping Laguna Rosa (Pink Lake) of Torrevieja

• Visit San Pedro del Pinatar Murcia for Flamencos

• Visit Cartegena to see the Roman Theatre (Teatro Romano) and Mojácar, 04638, Province of Almería, Spain

• Overnight: Mojácar or Mojacar Village

Day 9, February 5 — White villages and Granada 

•  Visit the white villages of Pampaneira, Bubión, and Capileira, in the spectacular mountain region south of Granada.

• Continue on through the Sierra Nevada Mountains to Granada, one of Spain's most atmospheric cities.

• Tapas dinner in Granada.

• Overnight: Granada

Day 9, February 5 — Granada: The Alhambra

• Morning visit to the Alhambra, including the Nasrid Palaces, Generalife gardens and Alcazaba fortress.

• Explore Granada's historic center in the afternoon.

• Overnight: Granada/Alpujarran village

Day 10, February 6 — Granada → Almunecar

• Visit the old Moorish quarter and enjoy time for shopping and cafés.

• Head into Almuñécar for a walking tour with a local resident.

• Experience a Flamenco show.

• Overnight: Almunicar

Day 11, February 7 — Almunicar → Nerja → Frigiliana → Málaga

• Visit Nerja’s Balcón de Europa for a photo, then walk the cobblestone streets of Frigiliana, often considered one of Andalusia's prettiest white villages.

• Continue to Málaga for another Pablo Picasso experience in the city where Picasso was born.

• Evening tapas crawl through Málaga's historic center.

• Overnight: Málaga

Day 12, February 8 — Airport Transfer after breakfast
